We pulled no punches in a campaign to ‘shake up’ standards of service within the tourism sector in the north.
Investment in staff development is often a casualty of other pressures, particularly for small businesses. The tourism sector is no exception so our hard hitting media campaign went right to the heart of the issue: it costs 5 times more to attract a new customer than it does to retain an existing one.
We brought public and private sector together in a leadership group and inspired trade association representations to take the message out to their members, from B & B owners to visitor attractions and luxury hotels. Our high profile 3 year campaign educated the tourism industry about the need for and benefits of staff training and led to significantly increased take up of training programmes.
